A £50,000 WIN

“ You would like to know about my £50,000 win? Well here goes.

The News of the world newspaper ran a competition to win £50,000 cash.  All you needed to do was to collect three differently dated tokens from three News of the World papers. I gathered the individual tokens, filled in the relevant details (name, address and day time phone number) and sent them off, not really thinking much more about it.

Well, whilst I was at work, I received a phone call on my mobile from a lovely lady called Kelly who worked in the promotions dept at the News of The World. She very calmly asked if I remembered entering a competition in the paper and told me that I had won!  I naturally it must have been a small prize - but she went on to say I’d won first prize, £50,000!

I honestly thought someone was trying to wind me up – surely normal people like me don’t win £50,000!  Kelly advised me to ring her back later after I had let it sink in. No one (not even my wife) knew I had entered the prize draw, so I guess it couldn’t be a wind-up!

Two hours later, I phoned Kelly back to (obviously) accept the prize - within ten days the money was there in my bank account! I was really nervous walking up to the cash machine to look at my balance on the screen. Instead of seeing the usual few hundred pounds, there was, two extra noughts on it. Seeing £50,000 in your account finally makes it seem real!

I’ve spent it wisely- paying off a lot of things, so my wife and I now only have to think about the mortgage payments and utility bills. For first time ever, we took a holiday in Orlando, a dream we thought we would never be able to afford!

I keep entering the competitions in the papers, because from somebody who thought these competitions were not winnable, believe me they are, and I still have the original letter of conformation laminated in its pride of place on my dinning room wall!”
