A fantastic family trip to New York

ANNE WAS THRILLED. THIS WAS ONE OF THOSE PRIZES WE ALL WANT TO WIN; NO STRINGS ATTACHED, NO EXTRAS TO PAY FOR − EVERYTHING WAS INCLUDED Anne Mills has been comping for ten years and loves her hobby. She got hooked after winning her first prize; a woof woof children’s game. This small prize (but very much appreciated by her four kids) lead on to bigger prizes: a bicycle… an LCD TV…, a freezer… £1,000 cash from a winning ticket inside a packet of Walkers crisps… and her BIGGEST prize of all; a family shopping trip to New York!
Anne entered the ‘Jet’ garages prize draw on an entry form she picked up while paying for her petrol. It was one entry per person; simply fill in your details right there and hand it back at the counter.
She couldn’t believe it when just a week after the closing date she got a letter from Jet saying she had won first prize, and to give them a call back to confirm all the details.
Anne was thrilled. This was one of those prizes we all want to win; no strings attached, no extras to pay for − everything was included. Jet paid for the family’s flights to New York, the transfers, the hotel accommodation, a bus tour round the city, a river harbour tour, $500 spending money and a personal shopper for the weekend.
Why a long weekend can be the perfect holiday prize
It’s not always easy to book time off work and take kids out of school is it? So winning a weekend break rather than a two-week holiday can be the ideal prize! With four children and full-time jobs it certainly worked well for Anne and her husband.
Jet used “Active holidays” to organise the trip − who were absolutely fantastic. And Jet was the perfect example of the accommodating promoter… The prize was for two adults and two children, but Jet agreed to pay the extra for all four children to go too!
When they arrived at New York airport a driver met, took their luggage, and apologised for not being able to park outside the front doors of the airport. Anne’s eyes caught sight of a clapped out mini bus in the carpark and thought “hey, ho; as long as it gets us to the hotel, who cares?” But then their eldest son spotted the gleaming, navy blue stretched limo next to it; they were chauffer-driven in style all the way to their hotel.
The hotel was great − they had three rooms to share between them. And it was ideally located for a weekend of fun in central New York…
Seeing downtown NewYork, on the buses!
Anne and the family did uptown and downtown New York on the classic New York buses and got a great feel for the city. They saw where the film Ghostbusters was shot (which the kids loved) and with $500 to spend they got some serious shopping in too. “The harbour boat trip was brilliant,” says Anne. “Seeing the Statue of Liberty for real was amazing!”
“They laughed when I first started comping… now they give me the entry forms!”
Anne’s family were a little sceptical when she first started comping; they didn’t believe she would ever win anything. Now she keeps winning fantastic prizes they are as keen as her and all come home with entry forms for her! Anne enters at least 30 comps a week and says her secret to success is getting in as many entries as she can.
