A World Cup Winner!

 My fantastic prize of tickets to the 1998 World Cup Semi-Finals in Paris. What an amazing adventure that was….

…With money for lunch and Metro rail card in hand, we travelled first-class all the way to Paris and checked into our gorgeous hotel.  There were 25 competition winners and their partners all ready to enjoy three days of fun in Paris, and watch France play Croatia in the semi-finals of the World Cup!

The first evening we were taken to the Montparnasse district in Paris and ate in a fabulous Art Deco restaurant. The smell of the delicious French cuisine makes my mouth water now, just thinking about it!

Back at our hotel rooms we found Gillette (the competition promoter) goodies in our room, baseball caps and gorgeous smellies, and settled down to a peaceful night’s sleep ready for the big match.

The next day we took a riverboat tour to the stadium to watch the match. We ate a fabulous four-course meal and got in the spirit of the match. Being in France to watch the game was perfect, the atmosphere was brilliant. As you may remember, the score was 2-1 to France, who went on to win the cup!

That evening we went on to Brazil… not the country but a bar in Paris. We all had a fabulous evening enjoying France’s victory!

We got back to the hotel to find more treats in our rooms, baseball caps, a disposable camera and even an engraved World Cup glass.

Travelling first-class all the way and staying in a luxurious hotel made the trip all the more special. It really was a trip of a lifetime that I will never forget.
